Winter Break Festival

On February 12th ‘Winter Break’ will have its first edition! A new indoor festival created entirely by and for all students of Groningen. Martiniplaza opens up their entire venue, and all participating student societies choose what will happen!

1. MAIN STAGE: GOLDFISH (live), Kav Verhouzer, De Hofnar, Shermanology (live) & LIC Soundsystem!
2. APRÈS-SKI: hits, 90s classics, live-music and beer tables with Jody Bernal, Gebroeders Scooter, Hart Geruis & Roodkopje DJ Team!
3. GAME ZONE: o.a. lasergaming, bubble-football, rodeo bull, Gotcha and beer games
4. CHILL ZONE: relax to the max

Winter Break is organised by: KEI, ESN, ACLO, FVOG, Albertus, Dizkartes, Vindicat, GCHC, The Knickerbockers, Martiniplaza. Cover is involved through FVOG, the coordinating association for study associations.

Martiniplaza offers more than enough space for all students of Groningen, the artists, acts and activities happening will all be chosen according to the wishes of the student societies of Groningen. Martiniplaza wants to create a platform created by and for all students of Groningen, and is supported in their efforts by renown dance-event organizers. Director Willem de Kok of Martiniplaza says: 'We are thrilled that the responses on our initiative in all student organizations are so enthused. Because everyone is thinking with us from their perspectives and feeds input to the plans, we hope to create something truly extra-ordinary.”

The idea is that every student shouldnt only party in their own clubs and societies, but once per year, everyone should be able to party together in one amazing blast of festivity. The moment chosen for this is right after the exams of the first semester, halfway in the academic year, so that everyone will be able to put their books down and put their hands up in the air! Jannick Brusse, president of international student association ESN says: “joining forces with all student societies together we are able to offer our students something way greater than one individual society can do alone. Winter Break is the perfect occasion to party with all students of Groningen on the same place! Now who wouldn’t love that?”

The students themselves are responsible for how cool the event can ultimately get. They will choose the artists performing on the several stages, as well as activities and entertainment at the event. Each student organization that wants to participate can join in. There are already ideas for a soccer game on a inflatable soccer field, and international student association ESN would like to have an area with smooth Latin music and 90s hits.

The first artists in the line-up are GOLDFISH especially flying in from South Africa. More line-up news will follow soon.
